Rohan Shirur — Biomathematics Major at Florida State University

As a biomathematics major and pre-medical student at Florida State University, Rohan Shirur is preparing for a career in medicine with a research focus. He has earned a 3.9+ GPA and built a quantitative foundation through coursework and research in mathematical biology, as well as computational modeling.

Rohan Shirur’s current research centers on using deterministic mathematical models to study biological system dynamics and treatment-relevant outcomes, including immune–pathogen interactions and therapy response. His work involves developing and analyzing dynamic equation models to better understand interactions between pathogens, immune response, and therapeutic strategies, combining analytical reasoning with simulation-based exploration. He is the first author of an undergraduate research paper currently under peer review at a scientific journal.

Alongside research, Rohan Shirur has gained clinical experience working as a medical assistant working at an outpatient orthopedics, gastroenterology, and, most recently, a family medicine clinic. As a medical assistant, he supports physicians with patient intake, triage, clinical documentation, in-office workflows, and follow-up care under clinical supervision.

Rohan Shirur is also active in community service through hospice volunteering, cardiovascular health advocacy with the American Heart Association, and volunteer firefighting. These experiences complement his research and clinical training by reinforcing a patient-centered approach and a commitment to improving health outcomes in real-world settings.
